# Watta > Watta is an AI-powered rowing workout tracker that reads any rowing machine screen. It captures workout data from erg monitor photos using OCR, scores every session with a proprietary 0-100 Effort Score, and provides heart rate zone analysis, pacing insights, and social training features. Watta is built by Polar Industries. Available on iOS via the App Store. ## What Watta Does - **AI OCR Capture**: Photograph your rowing machine screen after any workout. Watta extracts distance, time, split, stroke rate, and intervals automatically. Works with Concept2, WaterRower, and other ergometers. - **Effort Score (0-100)**: A proprietary composite score combining Cardiac Load (40%), Work Output (35%), Pacing Strategy (15%), and Economy (10%). Uses Karvonen heart rate reserve method. - **Heart Rate Zone Analysis**: Five personalised zones calculated via the Karvonen formula using resting and maximum heart rate. - **Clubs & Squads**: Create or join rowing clubs, compete on leaderboards, and share workouts with your training group. - **Strava Sync**: Workouts sync to Strava automatically. ## Effort Score Algorithm The Effort Score is a 0-100 rating of workout quality: - **Cardiac Load (40 points)**: Time spent in heart rate zones, weighted by zone intensity (Zone 1 = 1x, Zone 5 = 5x). - **Work Output (35 points)**: Total mechanical work (watts x time) normalised against personal baseline. - **Pacing Strategy (15 points)**: Consistency of split times across workout segments. Even or negative splits score highest. - **Economy (10 points)**: Power output per heartbeat. Higher watts at lower heart rate = better economy.
