Help & FAQ

How to get the most out of Watta — and what to do when something doesn't work. Can't find your answer? Email support@polarindustries.co and we'll get back to you within 48 hours.

Getting Started

What is Watta?
Watta is a rowing training log app that lets you capture workout data by photographing your Concept2 erg screen. Watta analyses your workouts and gives you an Effort Score so you can track your training load over time.
How do I log a workout?
Tap the + button, take a photo of your erg screen (or choose one from your camera roll), review the extracted data, and tap Save Workout. The app reads the data from your photo automatically, and you can edit any value before saving. You can also skip the photo entirely and enter data manually.
What is the Effort Score?
The Effort Score (0-100) measures how hard your workout was, personalised to you. It combines Cardiac Load (heart rate intensity, when available), Work Output (power and duration adjusted for your body size), Pacing (a consistency bonus for even or negative splits), and Economy (stroke efficiency). Scores fall into four zones: Recovery (0-25), Building (26-50), Training (51-75), and Peak (76-100).
How is my Effort Score personalised?
Your score is calculated using your profile data: age, weight, height, max heart rate, and resting heart rate. A 2:00 split means different things for different people — Watta adjusts for that. Keep your profile up to date in Profile → Edit Profile for the most accurate scores.
Do I need a heart rate monitor?
No, but it helps. Without heart rate data, Watta estimates your cardiac load from power output. With heart rate data, your Effort Score is more accurate and you unlock full Heart Rate Analysis.

Workouts

Why is my distance or time wrong?
The app uses AI to read your erg screen photo, and it can make mistakes — especially if the photo is blurry or at an angle, there is glare on the screen, or the screen shows many numbers at once. Always review the extracted data before saving; you can tap any field to edit it.
Can I edit or delete a workout after saving?
Yes. Go to Workouts, tap the workout, then tap Edit to change any value or Delete to remove it.
What types of workouts can I log?
Distance pieces (for example 2000m or 5000m), time pieces (for example 10:00 or 30:00), and interval sessions (for example 7×500m or 4×1000m). Watta supports the RowErg, SkiErg, and BikeErg.
Can I log workouts manually, without a photo?
Yes. Tap +, choose Manual Entry, and type in your data.
What is the difference between split and time?
Split is your pace per 500m (for example 1:55.0/500m). Time is the total workout duration (for example 20:00.0). If your split is 2:00 and your distance is 2000m, your total time is 8:00.

Heart Rate Analysis

What is Heart Rate Analysis?
When you log heart rate data, Watta provides additional insights: Intensity (what percentage of your max heart rate you worked at), Zone (which training zone you were in), Efficiency (watts produced per heartbeat), and Cardiac Drift (how much your heart rate rose during the session — a fatigue indicator).
What are heart rate zones?
Watta calculates personalised zones using the Karvonen method (heart rate reserve): Z1 Recovery (very easy, could chat), Z2 Aerobic (comfortable, breathing steady), Z3 Tempo (challenging, short sentences), Z4 Threshold (hard, only a few words), and Z5 Max (all out, cannot talk). Zones are based on the max and resting heart rate in your profile.
How do I record my heart rate?
Watta reads heart rate from your erg screen photo when it is displayed — pair your heart rate monitor with the PM5 and it appears on screen. You can also enter your average heart rate manually when reviewing a workout.

Clubs & Squads

How do I join a club?
Go to the Clubs area, search for your club name, and tap Request to Join (or enter your club invite code). A club admin then approves your request.
How do I create a club?
Go to the Clubs area, tap Create Club, enter your club name, location, and description, and submit. New clubs start as pending until verified by the Watta team.
What is the difference between a club and a squad?
A club is your rowing club (for example "London Rowing Club"). A squad is a group within your club (for example "Women's Squad" or "Novices"). You can be in one club but multiple squads.
Who can see my workout data?
You control workout visibility: private workouts are visible only to you, while public workouts can appear in your club, squad, and followers' feeds and on leaderboards. Visibility is set per workout, and your profile privacy settings control what club members can see.
Can my coach see my data?
Only with your consent. Coaching in Watta is built on a mutual invite: you and your coach connect from the Profile screen, and you choose whether the coach sees your full workout history or only the workouts attached to their assignments. You can change or revoke this at any time.

Strava & ErgData

How do I connect Strava?
Tap the + button to open Add Workout, choose Share to Strava, then log in to Strava and authorise Watta. Once connected, your workouts appear in your Strava feed as rowing activities.
How do I disconnect Strava?
Go to Add Workout, tap Share to Strava, and choose Disconnect.
Can I import workouts from ErgData?
Yes. Workouts you record with ErgData sync to your Concept2 Logbook, and Watta can import them from there. Tap the + button, choose Import from ErgData, and authorise Watta with your Concept2 Logbook account. Your workout history imports automatically, and new workouts flow in each time you open the app.
How do I disconnect my Concept2 Logbook?
Go to Add Workout, tap Import from ErgData, and choose Disconnect. Workouts already imported are kept.

Account

How do I change my password?
Go to Settings and use Reset Password — we email you a secure link to set a new one. If you signed up with Apple or Google, your login is managed by that provider instead.
How do I update my profile (age, weight, etc.)?
Go to Profile → Edit Profile. Keeping this up to date improves your Effort Score accuracy.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, removes all your workout data within 30 days, and removes you from any clubs. This cannot be undone.
Is Watta free?
Yes. Watta is free to download and use — logging workouts, the Effort Score, heart rate analysis, clubs, and squads are all included.

Privacy & Data

What data do you collect?
In summary: account info (email, name), profile data (age, weight, height, heart rate), workout data (distance, time, split, heart rate), and usage analytics if you consent. See our Privacy Policy at getwatta.com/privacy for full details.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell your personal data to third parties.
How long do you keep my data?
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days.
How do I request my data or ask you to delete it?
Email privacy@polarindustries.co with your request. We respond within 30 days.

Troubleshooting

The app won't read my photo
Make sure the photo is clear and well-lit, avoid glare on the erg screen, and take the photo straight-on rather than at an angle. Then try again — AI isn't perfect. You can always enter the data manually instead.
The app crashed
Close and reopen the app, check for updates in the App Store or Play Store, and restart your phone. If it keeps happening, email support@polarindustries.co with your device model and OS version.
My Effort Score seems wrong
Check that your profile is up to date — age, weight, max heart rate, and resting heart rate all feed the score. Also check the workout data itself (distance, time, split) was read correctly from the photo.
I can't log in
Check your email and password are correct, tap Forgot Password to reset, and check your internet connection. If you're still stuck, email support@polarindustries.co.
I'm not receiving emails
Check your spam or junk folder and add support@polarindustries.co to your contacts. Verification and password reset emails can take a minute or two to arrive.
