Effort Score
What is Effort Score?
Watta's Effort Score is a composite 0-100 rating that captures the total physiological demand of an erg session. It combines four components: Cardiac Load (40 points) based on heart rate intensity using the Karvonen method, Work Output (35 points) based on power output adjusted for body weight, Pacing (15 points) rewarding even and negative splits, and Economy (10 points) rewarding efficient power production per stroke. The score maps to four effort zones: Recovery (0-25), Building (26-50), Training (51-75), and Peak (76-100). Unlike simple metrics like calories or distance, the Effort Score accounts for who you are (age, weight, heart rate profile) and how you performed (power, pacing, efficiency). This makes it meaningful for comparing efforts across different workout types and tracking fitness development over time.
How Watta Uses Effort Score
The Effort Score is Watta's signature feature. Every logged workout receives an Effort Score calculated from the data extracted from your PM5 screen photo combined with your profile data and optional heart rate information. Scores are displayed on your workout history, leaderboard, and trend charts.
