Concept2 BikeErg

By the Watta Team · Updated

Concept2 BikeErg: The Concept2 BikeErg is a stationary bicycle using the same air resistance flywheel system as the RowErg, designed for cycling training and cross-training.

What is Concept2 BikeErg?

The Concept2 BikeErg brings the proven air resistance technology of the RowErg to cycling. It uses a flywheel with adjustable damper for progressive resistance and includes a PM5 monitor for consistent data tracking. The BikeErg is used by cyclists, triathletes, CrossFit athletes, and rowers for cross-training. It features a friction-free drivetrain with a clutch mechanism that allows coasting, mimicking the feel of a road bike. The BikeErg uses standard cycling metrics on the PM5 — watts, RPM, distance, and calories — making it compatible with cycling power training zones. For rowers, it provides an excellent low-impact cross-training option that builds leg power without the back strain of rowing.

How Watta Uses Concept2 BikeErg

Watta supports BikeErg data capture from the PM5 screen using the same photo-based OCR system. The Effort Score algorithm calculates scores for BikeErg sessions, enabling cross-machine comparison of training effort and volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BikeErg good for rowing cross-training?
Yes. The BikeErg builds leg power and aerobic capacity without loading the back and shoulders. It is particularly useful during high-volume rowing phases when the back needs recovery, or for injury rehabilitation.
How does the BikeErg differ from a regular spin bike?
The BikeErg uses air resistance (progressive, natural feel) instead of magnetic or friction resistance. It has a clutch mechanism allowing coasting, a PM5 for accurate power measurement, and the same data consistency as other Concept2 machines.
Can I use cycling power zones on the BikeErg?
Yes. The PM5 displays watts, making it compatible with FTP-based power zones. Set your damper to match the resistance feel you prefer and train using watts as your primary metric.
